Abstract
The opioid epidemic has been a long-standing issue, leading to over 96,700 deaths per year and opioids are a factor in 7 out of 10 overdose deaths.1 The creation of Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal agent, has helped to save thousands of lives.1 The main limitation of Narcan is access. With the continuously progressing illegal drug market, overdoses require more than one dose of this life-saving medication in more and more situations. The approval of over-the-counter (OTC) Narcan will help to increase access to the opioid overdose reversal agent.
